Easter (Storyteller Sunday postponed)
Throughout the years that we’ve been brewing beer for the greater Grand Rapids area, as well as the rest of the state once we put in the canning line, we’ve known that we make a solid product. We know this because you’ve literally told us as much. And we respect you enough to believe you. So it shouldn’t have come as a surprise when we took home the gold for our BHK Nut Brown Ale at the Minnesota Brewers Cup in the American Amber, Brown, and Pale Ale category! But, you know, surprised we were! And thrilled! To quote Sally Field accepting her own award, “You like me, you really like me!”
And it didn’t end there! The night went on and we also won the silver in the Amber Lager category for our Lundr’s Lager Rauchbier (smoked lager)! It’s one of those instances where we knew we had a great beer on our hands, worthy of competition, but it’s also an uncommon style so it would have some difficulty holding its own against more accessible versions of amber lager. But apparently it’s just what they were looking for!
All in all, an amazing night and a humbling experience, having such great wins for one of our favorite seasonal brews as well as for one of our flagship beers. We love the beer in no small part because you love the beer too, and now we have some more accolades from our peers in the beer world too. It’s a wonderful feeling and we won’t let you down by resting on our laurels. On the contrary, our dedication is renewed to keep making the best beer you can get your hands on. So we hope to see you in the taproom.
Prost!
We’d love to leave it at that, but we got more housekeeping to do! There’s stuff happening, you know! Not least of all we have Der Erste Mai, our annual spring punk music festival, on Saturday, April 26. It’s an all-day event, featuring such bands as Underground Til Sundown, Battery Eyes, Suburban Muscle, Shadows of Me, 2003UB313, and Smalltown SINdrome. And if all this doesn’t scream “spring,” maybe this will: the return of Singing Chihuahua Tacos! Yep, this is always their first event of the year with us. And after that, be sure to get some ice cream from Borealis Creamery and, naturally, a few pints of (award-winning) beer.
And so almost closes the month of April here at Klockow. Almost, because then on Sunday, being the last Sunday of the month, is Open Mic! Only it’ll be done a little differently this time, what with this upcoming Sunday being Easter and all. This weekend would normally be Storyteller Sunday, so we’re mashing a couple events together. On Sunday, April 27, from 12:30 to 1:30, we’ll have storytellers, and from then on will be standard open mic for everyone else! Storyteller theme for April: fauna (which leads in to May’s theme of “flora.” See what we did there!).
But alas, Ditty Wish will not be present for Open Mic and will therefore be finding a substitute MC. And this means the subsequent bar sing will be canceled until next month. And so concludes our housekeeping… for now.

Thanks for checking out our humble little brewery! As long as you keep coming by, we’ll do our part by making the best damn beer possible and serving it in our always inviting atmosphere.
